Redefining brand (and education) with a successful digital learning platform.
The Summit Learning Platform has been a successful product of the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative’s education portfolio for years, but their decision to separate it from their Summit Public Schools offering resulted in confusion, and a disconnect between the existing product’s brand and its aspirations. CZI approached IDEO with the challenge of redefining the Summit brand to reflect the tremendous trailblazing it has already done in the world, and reposition it as a leader in designing the future of education.
The Solution
A complete rebrand of the Summit Learning Platform—including a new name, portfolio and brand strategy, architecture and positioning, visual identity, verbal identity and tone of voice, and digital product visual language and experience concepts. Inspired by the crazy, weird world of high-school, Continuum’s identity pulls from visual cues like pages torn from notebooks, doodles scribbled onto desks, and the bright starbursts that are the exciting moments of clarity and new knowledge.
My Role
As the team lead, I championed the creative vision for our work, ensured my team was set up to do the best design work possible, handled project planning, and managed our relationship with our client, CZI. As a Communication Designer, I focused my hands-on design work on developing the visual brand identity and applications, and partnering with our Interaction Designer to reimagine how the brand influences students’ and teachers’ experiences of the Continuum digital learning platform.
